The St. Albert Kinsmen announced Monday the 2020 Rainmaker Festival is cancelled this year in light of COVID-19.
The festival, which the Kinsmen have hosted for 55 years, will return next year from May 28 to May 30.
In a statement posted to its website, the Kinsmen Club noted a "core value" of the festival is the health and safety of everyone involved.
"With the COVID global pandemic making it unsafe in the community, a decision had to be made to cancel the event," the statement read.
Last month, the city decided to cancel all public events until June 1, including the Rainmaker parade that happens after the annual pancake breakfast.
"We fully agree with the decision by the City to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of everybody is put ahead of fun and entertainment," the statement read.
"Following this decision, the Club made a decision at a meeting to cancel the event instead of trying to arrange for it to happen at a later date because of the availability of bands and our partners.
"We are devastated and heartbroken that we won't be able to provide a great time for the kids and adults that came annually to see all of our events."
