A St. Albert man is facing a manslaughter charge after a hit-and-run collision in northeast Edmonton last month that killed one and seriously injured several others.
Michael Beverly Gress, 36, also faces several other charges including dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
The Edmonton Police Service said in a news release the three-vehicle collision took place Saturday, March 12, at around 1:30 a.m. west of the intersection of 167 Avenue and 59A Street.
Gress was allegedly driving a westbound Dodge Avenger that hit a Chevy Cavalier from behind at a high rate of speed, sending it spinning into an oncoming Mitsubishi Lancer before both cars came to a stop.
The lone passenger of the Cavalier, a 29-year-old man, was thrown from the vehicle after that collision, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of the Cavalier was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Lancer were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Gress, who did not sustain injuries, allegedly fled the scene on foot.
