A St. Albert man is facing charges along with a woman from Fort Saskatchewan in a catalytic converter theft case in that city.
Vincent James Whitford, 39 is facing four charges stemming from an Aug. 29 catalytic converter theft in Fort Saskatchewan, RCMP said in a statement released Aug. 30.
RCMP received a complaint at 3 a.m. Aug. 29 of a catalytic converter theft from a vehicle parked on Santana Crescent in Fort Saskatchewan, according to RCMP.
"Fort Saskatchewan RCMP responded immediately and located a male and female hiding from police in a nearby pickup truck, who were subsequently arrested," RCMP said in the statement.
Whitford and Amy Lynn Gummesen, 42, of Fort Saskatchewan, were found in possession of a power saw and a cut catalytic converter was in the pickup truck, RCMP stated.
Whitford has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; possession of break-in tools; mischief under $5,000; and one count of failing to comply with a probation order, the release states.
Gummesen has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; possession of break-in tools; mischief under $5,000; and two counts of failing to comply with a release order condition, RCMP said in the Aug. 30 release.
"Gummesen had been charged earlier this month for the theft of two catalytic converters and was released at that time by a justice of the peace on conditions," RCMP said in the release. "Gummesen was again held for a judicial interim release hearing and was remanded into custody."
Whitford was also remanded into custody after a judicial interim release hearing, according to RCMP.
Both accused had representation that appeared in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on Sept. 1 and had their matters put over until Sept. 8.
