A group of St. Albert elected officials have released a joint statement speaking out against the anti-immigration protest that occurred on Saturday, where participants held up signs saying "deport them all," and "white lives matter," and performed a Nazi salute.
The statement, titled No place for hate in our community, was released on Jan. 29. It is signed by St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron, St. Albert-Edmonton MP Michael Cooper, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction and Morinville-St. Albert MLA Dale Nally, and Senator Kristopher Wells.
The statement begins saying the "three individuals stood along St. Albert Trail holding disrespectful, racially motivated signs that do not reflect the values of our community."
"As Mayor of St. Albert, I strongly condemn this disturbing incident and send an equally strong message of support for the values of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility," Heron said in the statement. "The City of St. Albert is a welcoming and inclusive community. There is no room for hate in our neighbourhoods. As the St. Albert RCMP stated in their January 27, 2025 news release, 'everyone should feel safe, and be treated with equality and respect.'"
