It can be hard at Christmas time to pick out the perfect gift, especially for the most important woman in your life.
For the mom who already has it all, some local businesses can help find that perfect gift for your favourite person.
The Bookstore on Perron Street is full of unique gifts to for mom this season. Sales associate Angela Chatwin said one of her favourite items in the store is the Swig drink holder.
“It's a line of different drink holders, but with the Swig line they're dishwasher safe. So that makes a huge difference because most of the thermoses that you can buy are,” Chatwin said.
Another gift mom might love is a book for writing special letters to their child. The special book is full of pages for mom to write an annual letter to their little one and eventually the mom then gives the book back to their kiddo for a special occasion.
“Then you can present the book on a wedding day or as a graduation gift,” Chatwin said.
Over at Modern Eyes Gallery and Gift, shoppers can buy more presents for mom from another locally owned and operated business. Owner Jody Reekie said the store is brimming with special gifts for mom this year.
“We're pretty proud of everything that's in the store,” Reekie said, adding they have something for everyone in their shop.
One gift she recommends is their Maison Berger line of purifying home fragrance collection, which involves a lamp diffuser.
“It's that time of year where we're spending more time indoors,” Reekie said.
The shop owner said she hears lots of feedback from people who swear the gift keeps colds and illnesses out of their homes.
The product was created in 1898 by Maurice Berger to deal with asepsis in hospitals. In the 1930s, fragrances were added to make the product more enjoyable.
Modern Eyes carries dozens of scents for mom to burn in her house, with plenty of different designs in the lamps to match any décor.
Reekie said the brand even carries a neutral scent for those who don’t like scented products in their homes, but still helps to purify the air. For Mason Berger enthusiasts, the brand has expanded beyond the traditional lamp diffusers.
“They've expanded to candles and reed diffusers ... and car diffusers,” Reekie said.
For moms who love jewelry, Modern Eyes is stocked up on the all the latest Pandora jewelry for those who love collecting the product.
Along with Pandora, Reekie’s shop has a line of Canadian-made jewelry called Pyrrha, which features handcrafted and meaningful talisman jewelry.
“This is jewelry with meaning so this is like personal talisman jewelry,” Reekie said.
The owner said the line is huge, but they focus on selling the pendants in the local shop.
“The core piece of our business is the pendants, which come with a meaning card, so this is kind of personal jewelry with meaning.”
The line carries pendants for family, protection, strength and character.
