Police have identified the man found dead last month northwest of St. Albert and said he was kidnapped prior to his body being found.
The Morinville RCMP along with the RCMP K Division’s Major Crimes Unit have determined that 25-year-old Sudesh Chamara Bombuwala of Edmonton was kidnapped from his home before he was found dead. On Aug. 9 an area resident called police after finding a body while out for a walk.
Bombuwala, who also went by the nicknames Ricco or Johnny, was found near the intersection of Township Road 540 and Rural Route 263, which is a rural area south of Villeneuve and north of Big Lake.
Police say the crime was not random but rather a targeted attack. The public is not in danger. Police are not aware if the crime is gang related.
The specific cause of death has been determined by the medical examiner but that information is not being released to the public at this time.
“There are people of interest they are working,” Cpl. Hal Turnbull of K Division said. “The case is moving forward but they are looking for tips.”
There has yet to be any suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles reported seen in the area at the time of the crime.
“They are looking for anyone who would have seen anything in that area on the Monday afternoon,” Turnbull said.
Morinville Staff Sgt. Riz Suleman said last month this was the first homicide that had happened in his detachment’s region since he took the position a year and a half ago.
The RCMP is now reaching out to ask for the public’s assistance in the investigation.
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area bordered by Secondary Highway 633 (on the north side), Township Road 540 (on the south side), Rural Route 263 (on the east side) and Secondary Highway 779 (on the west side) between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, is asked to contact the RCMP.
If you have any information, please call the Morinville RCMP Detachment at 780-939-4520. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. If your information leads to an arrest, you may qualify for a cash award of up to $2,000.00.
