St. Albert RCMP officers are looking for a driver who tried to settle an argument by running over a young man early Saturday morning.

The young man was walking with a friend around 3:15 a.m. on Overton Place near Oakridge Drive South when he got into an argument with the mystery driver.

The driver knocked the pedestrian down with his vehicle and then ran him over with the front two wheels of his car before fleeing the scene.

Const. Janice Schoepp said the young man was badly hurt.

“He was taken to hospital and he remains in an Edmonton hospital in stable condition.”

Schoepp said the two young men were walking along the road when an argument broke out and the driver then deliberately ran him down. She said the RCMP is very concerned about the conscious nature of the attack.

“It was a deliberate act and that is why we would really like people who have any information to contact the detachment.”

There was also a passenger in the vehicle, but the police do not have a description of either occupant.

The vehicle is described as a newer model dark red or maroon Olds Alero with a tan interior.

Schoepp said the police also believe the vehicle could be dented on the driver’s side.

Anyone with any information is being asked to call the detachment at 780-458-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-22-TIPS.
