A piece of jewelry might have been turned in to a local charity by mistake and now St. Albert RCMP is notifying the public in an attempt to return it to its rightful owner.
In late April, a tray of jewelry was turned in to the donation bin at an unnamed local charity. Staff there noted that the items were displayed on trays that are typically used in store displays and the jewelry also had pricing labels on them. They turned it over to the local RCMP detachment in case it had been reported as lost or stolen.
“This jewelry doesn’t have serial numbers or things where we can positively identify the owners,” said Cpl. Laurel Kading, the detachment’s media liaison officer. Police use care in sending out press releases of this nature.
“It’s kind of a teaser. It gives people an idea of what I’m looking at but in order to be able to claim the rest, we would need someone to describe it to us... or if someone came in with the exact invoice that’s got the exacting matching description. That’s the only way we have of verifying it.”
She added that found property gets turned in frequently to the RCMP. If someone wishes to make a claim on the jewelry, the St. Albert RCMP can be contacted at 780-458-7700 or by visiting the detachment at 96 Bellerose Dr.
