Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the number of people with COVID-19 in the province rose by 126 since yesterday, bringing the cumulative total to 1,996. No new deaths have been reported and more than 900 people have recovered from their illnesses.
There was, however, a technical difficulty that affected the province’s monitoring of the spread of the disease. A data centre outage at the ministry shut down the data feed from the provincial lab. That feed has not yet been restored.
Hinshaw did, however, state that the number of tests conducted has risen since the province expanded testing to include all Albertans. Testing jumped by 2,853 over the last day alone.
There was a new outbreak she reported at a work camp north of Fort McMurray. Afterward, she further discussed the outbreak at meat packing plants in southern Alberta.
“As I have previously said, COVID-19 is not a foodborne illness. There is no risk to the public from food produced at these facilities,” she stated.
Those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and who live anywhere in the province can be tested by going to the Alberta Health Services online assessment tool or for those without internet access by calling 811.
