Young pedestrian hit

A girl was struck by a car while trying to cross the street in a marked crosswalk on Wednesday and was taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital with minor injuries.

A Mitsubishi Lancer travelling westbound on Sir Winston Churchill struck the girl crossing the road at 8 a.m. She was crossing between Richard S. Fowler School and Sir Alexander Mackenzie School. The 17-year-old driver of the car was given a $772 ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

"We have responded to a number of collisions this month that have involved vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists,” Cst. Beth McIntosh said. “We have been very fortunate we have not had more serious injuries or loss of life."

The police would like to remind residents to use the “Point, Pause, Proceed” method of crossing the street. Pedestrians should point the direction they are travelling, pause and wait for all vehicles to come to a complete stop and then proceed across the street. McIntosh says it is not safe for pedestrians to assume that they will always be seen at a crosswalk and they need to make eye contact with the driver.

Suspicious scaling

On Tuesday Sept. 20 a person living on Dundas Place heard a suspicious noise on their roof. The resident went out to investigate and found a man on his garage roof. The man jumped off the roof and ran away when the resident yelled at him.

The intentions of the suspect were not known, but it is possible he was attempting to climb in an open window on the second floor of the house.

The man is described as having brown, medium-length hair, an unshaven face with stubble and he was wearing khaki pants, a blue hoodie and grey shoes.
