Morinville RCMP are looking for several men accused of a violent home invasion near Gibbons last week.
Police say they got the call in the early morning hours of Aug. 10, and were dispatched to the rural property.
Late in the evening on Aug. 9, several men wearing gloves and masks broke into a 68-year-old man’s house, with one wielding what’s believed to be a shotgun. The man was tied up while his home and property were ransacked.
When the suspects left, the man managed to walk to a neighbouring property and contact police. Police say he only suffered minor injuries during this incident.
Police say based on what was stolen, they believe this was a targeted theft and the suspects came prepared with a trailer. Police did not say what was stolen, but said very few people would have known the items were there.
Morinville police continue to investigate, with help from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.
St. Albert RCMP is warning about an investment-fraud scheme that has cost one resident thousands of dollars.
On Aug. 9, the victim reported to police that over the course of a couple of weeks they made wire transfers to a company claiming to be Option Giant, who appear to be connected to Global Health and Wellness Advisors.
The victim believed the money would be invested in a company trading foreign currencies, and there would be a full return with profit in 90 days. None of the money has been recovered.
Slave Lake RCMP received a similar report this summer, with a resident wiring money to Option Giant through a company Exogen, allegedly run by a Sandra Barnes and a Kevin Robinson. That victim was also recommended to invest in Global Health Wellness Advisors, and lost all invested money.
Cpl. Laurel Kading cautioned would-be investors to research and get outside professional advice when they hear of these kinds of lucrative investment opportunities with a short turnaround like 90 days.
“That kind of promise of a return is a huge warning to all investors that something is wrong,” she said. “It is just too good to be true!”
