Morinville RCMP have laid charges of careless driving and speeding against an 18-year-old woman after a fatal collision last January.

Police laid the charges July 10 following a lengthy investigation into the January 27 collision that killed the 17-year-old boy riding in the woman’s vehicle.

The collision took place January 27 around 10:30 a.m. near Township Road 570 and Range Road 231. The car was travelling westbound when a commercial vehicle pulled in front of it. The car’s driver hit the brakes but collided with truck.

The 58-year-old truck driver has been charged with failing to yield. Police aren’t releasing either driver’s name. The charges will be heard in Morinville Provincial Court August 25.

Police are looking for the culprits responsible for shoplifting from a St. Albert business last week.

On July 12, between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., one man stole a grey Craftsman lawnmower that was on display outside the Sears store on Inglewood Drive, while a second man stole an orange Dyson vacuum from a display shelf inside the store.

The man who stole the lawnmower wasn’t clearly seen and so police have no description, but say the second man is 30 to 40 years old, has short hair and a tattoo on his left forearm, and was wearing a grey ball cap, jeans, a black T-shirt and running shoes.

St. Albert police are reminding residents to be careful what they leave in lockers at Servus Place.

Last Friday, July 15, three lockers were broken into at the facility. Stolen items include sets of keys, two wallets, a cellphone and articles of clothing.

Police recommend limiting what you leave in lockers, and to always use lockers in more visible areas. People can also keep their high-value items with them in a gym bag while they use the facility.

St. Albert RCMP want residents to know damaging trees could result in criminal vandalism charges.

On July 13 police got a report of someone breaking branches and stripping bark from trees in Akinsdale.

Police say St. Albert is proud to be a botanical city, and this type of vandalism won’t be tolerated.
