The St. Albert RCMP has arrested an 18-year-old man from the Woodlands neighbourhood after he allegedly set a fire on a front porch in that community.
A call was made to 911 by a homeowner on Feb. 11, at around 2:30 who told police his porch was on fire. Both RCMP and the St. Albert Fire Department responded, but the homeowner had managed to extinguish the fire.
An investigation by police resulted in the 18-year-old man being arrested and remanded into custody. Police say the motive for this crime is not known. The estimated dollar value of the damage to the residence isn’t known either, but damage was mostly limited to the house’s door and doorframe.
The man has been charged with arson and will appear in St. Albert Provincial Court Feb. 22.
Police have recovered a truck reported stolen from Slave Lake.
St. Albert RCMP officer patrolling in Campbell Park at the eastern edge of the city on Feb. 10, at about 11:30 p.m., noticed a Ford pickup truck parked in a suspicious manner in the parking lot of the Apex Casino.
The officer investigated, and determined the truck had been reported stolen. A 46-year-old man from Tiger Lily, within the County of Barrhead, was arrested.
Police continue to investigate, but the man has been released. He is scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on March 14, to face charges of possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine and breaching an undertaking.
