A St. Albert resident chased away to two would-be thieves in Lacombe Park last weekend, but police have been unable to identify them.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 30, a man living in the neighbourhood saw two suspects rummaging through his truck, which was parked in his driveway.
He ran out to confront the two, and they fled down Leonard Drive and disappeared in the area of L’Hirondelle Court.
Later that morning, he came across the same two suspects at the Husky Gas Station on Deer Ridge Drive. At that time, they were in a silver or grey Jeep Patriot. They drove away in an unknown direction, and have not been found.
They are both described as being 20 to 25 years old, wearing jeans and black hoodies.
Police are reminding St. Albertans not to leave their car running unattended after a woman’s car was stolen from in front of a school last week.
Around 4:10 p.m. on Jan. 27, a woman went to a city school to drop off hockey equipment for her son, and left her car running while she went in.
During the two minutes the car was left unattended, somebody had driven away with the vehicle. Fortunately, the vehicle was recovered abandoned a short time later with no damage.
The owner could have avoided the theft altogether by simply shutting the ignition and locking the vehicle.
“Most vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity. So the harder you make a criminal work to steal your belongings, the less likely they are to target you,” Const. Yelena Avoine said.
St. Albert RCMP issued a request for the public’s help in locating a missing 16-year-old St. Albert girl on Thursday evening, but confirmed Friday morning she had been found.
The girl reportedly had a dispute with her family, then left in an emotional state. Her family had not been able to contact her, and was worried due to some health concerns. Cpl. Laurel Kading confirmed Friday morning the girl has been found.
Anyone with information about any of these files is asked to contact St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700 or phone Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
