Local RCMP laid sexual assault charges Friday against a former nurse at the Sturgeon Community Hospital.
Eric James Christiansen, 48, faces three charges of sexual assault stemming from contact he had with two adult women at the St. Albert hospital.
Both women allege they were touched inappropriately during treatment.
Cpl. Laurel Kading with the St. Albert RCMP said both incidents date back to 2010 and were brought to the RCMP's attention in the fall.
“Sturgeon hospital came to us in early fall 2010 and passed on their information that there were these incidents between February and July 2010.”
Kading said the women both reported the incidents directly to hospital staff, who then contacted police. She said the women did not bring forward their concerns right away.
Kading said the man no longer works at the hospital. “He was no longer employed as of early September 2010, but the circumstances of that I don't know. “
A spokesperson for Alberta Health Services declined to comment, citing the issue is now before the courts.
Kading said police need as much information as possible from the public.
“We keep our doors open that if anybody had information with respect to these cases or with any other cases certainly they should call us and we would investigate.”
Kading added the hospital has fully co-operated with the RCMP investigation.
“We are quite pleased with the co-operation from the hospital in this investigation and I think that speaks to the efforts they have made to make sure patients are safe and everything is OK at their hospital.”
Christiansen is set to make his first court appearance in St. Albert on Feb. 28.
