To prepare for a future park in Kingswood, city council passed first reading of an amendment to the land use bylaw to change the zoning (officially referred to as "districting") on 2.3 hectares of urban reserve land into a public park.
The site is located on the east side of Kingswood Boulevard and bounded to the north by Kingsmeade Crescent.
In February, councillors approved acquiring land for the eventual Kingsmeade Park. That followed a move in April 2019 to expropriate land the city was owed by Canterra Developments.
On June 1, recreation and parks applied to redistrict the land on Canterra's behalf.
In late August, the city launched a survey to collect opinions from residents on the new park. That survey closed September 7, with concept plan options coming back for public feedback this fall.
A public hearing on the rezoning is tentatively set for Nov. 2.
If passed, the bylaw then allows for recreation and parks to move forward with the design and construction phases.
