Jury selection is underway for the murder trial in the 2017 death of a St. Albert senior, despite the accused firing her sixth lawyer just days before the trial is to proceed.

On Thursday jury selection began for the murder trial of the woman accused of killing St. Albert senior Ron Worsfold, despite her terminating her most recent lawyer earlier this week. The justice on the case has ordered the trial to proceed.

Musila has been ordered to stand trial for the murder of Worsfold, which is slated to begin on April 24 and run until June 2. Musila will have a trial by jury.

Since Worsfold’s death, the trial has been delayed multiple times and Musila faced a preliminary inquiry in March and April 2018, after which the judge ordered her to stand trial.

Musila was originally scheduled to stand trial for the murder of the St. Albert senior starting April 14, 2020, at Court of Queen's Bench in Edmonton. However, the trial was delayed until fall 2021 and once again until October 2022.

The trial was then scheduled to start on April 17, but was delayed one more week.

Musila, who was 28 at the time she allegedly committed the crime, is also facing charges of indignity to human remains from the incident.

Worsfold went missing on July 7, 2017 and his body was found in a rural area of Parkland County near Stony Plain on July 9, 2017.

The Gazette will have updates on the trial at stalbertgazette.com starting on Monday April 24.
