The Morinville RCMP detachment is warning area residents not to fall for potential asphalt scams as the spring season continues in Alberta.
Earlier this week, Morinville RCMP said in an April 19 news release, reports were received about an individual trying to sell asphalt to rural residents of Sturgeon County.
“This time of year brings about a thaw to driveways leaving potholes to fill but don’t be scammed,” the release says. “The suspect offers to fill your driveway potholes or pave a driveway for a bargain basement price and asks for money up front then is never seen again.”
“Police believe a rental vehicle is being used to escape detection. A black Dodge Ram pick up truck may be associated at this time.”
“Residents are encouraged to call the Morinville RCMP with information including video surveillance that will help identify the person(s) responsible.”
To avoid falling for the scam, Morinville RCMP recommend residents only hire known and reputable businesses, check the credentials of individuals offering services, and not paying in full until any paving work is completed, the release says.
“If you have information about this crime or those responsible please call the Morinivlle RCMP at780-939-4520.”
