Morinville now has a new temporary top administrator, and Leduc residents might recognize her name.

Morinville town council announced Feb. 15 they had appointed administrative services general manager Michelle Hay as interim chief administrative officer following a special council meeting.

Town CAO Stephane Labonne announced last month he was moving to a new job in B.C. effective Feb. 25. Councillors moved to hire a temporary top administrator to fill his post until they can hire a permanent replacement.

Hay joined the town’s administration in April 2021, having previously served as director of government relations and corporate planning strategy for the City of Leduc, and has experience in municipal administration, regional collaboration, and government relations.

In an interview, Morinville Mayor Simon Boersma said council picked Hay because she is invested in the community and knows the town’s organizational culture, both of which will provide stability during this transition time. As Hay said she does not want to stay as CAO permanently, council has put out a call to local hiring agencies for candidates and hopes to find a permanent top executive within six months.
