Mayor Nolan Crouse will give the annual State of the City address next Wednesday.
The speech, hosted by the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce, gives an overview of the city’s broad progress over the last year – and what is moving ahead in 2014, said chamber president and CEO Lynda Moffat.
Crouse “may talk about some strategic planning that the city has done and what their priorities are going to be,” she said. “It’s always very, very informative.”
In an email to the Gazette, Crouse wrote that he will be providing some information on the state of St. Albert relative to its financial health, as well as to its environmental, social and economic health.
He will also give an overview of the operating and capital priorities that council agreed to on Feb. 3., and speak to key priorities in the region, he said.
Last year, Crouse focused heavily on the push for more economic development in the city.
More than 220 people are expected to attend the event, including local and regional politicians and entrepreneurs. Business owners benefit from the event as it gives them a sense of where the community is heading, said Moffat.
“Business needs stability and business needs to know that our municipality and the location of their business is in a stable environment that is moving forward in a good direction,” she said. “It gives them a sense of how to do their own long-term planning as a business person.”
The State of the City address will be held at the Enjoy Centre on Feb. 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Chamber members pay $40, and non-member $45 (or $300 for a table of eight).
