Officers with the St. Albert RCMP detachment raided another apartment this week, finding drugs, cash and electronic scales in a Mission area home.
On Tuesday morning, members of the detachment’s drug section descended on an apartment at 85 Mission Ave. as well as a car parked outside.
They found one-third of a pound of marijuana as well as digital scales, packaging and a small amount of cash.
Const. Janice Schoepp said most of the drugs were found inside the apartment, adding that while the seizure was not massive, it was enough to suggest a trafficking operation.
“It is certainly enough that it is not for personal use and enough to justify a trafficking charge.”
Zane Matthew Augruso, 20, has been charged with one count of possession for the purposes of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000.
He was released on $1,000 cash bail with a number of conditions that are standard in trafficking cases, including a curfew and that he not possess a cellphone.
Schoepp had little information on what led police to the home, but said it was part of the detachment’s ongoing efforts targeting trafficking operations.
“It has been ongoing. They have received information in the past and followed up on it.”
Augruso will make his first court appearance on the charges on May 17.
