A 64-year-old man died at a business near Namao today when a picker truck he was working on crushed him.
Investigators from Occupational Health and Safety are now on scene at Peace Mountain Projects Limited, a pipeline construction and maintenance company headquartered on Highway 37 near Namao.
Chris Chodan, a spokesperson for Occupational Health and Safety said the man was killed after the large picker truck fell on top of him.
“The worker was working underneath the truck and it crushed him.”
Chodan said investigators are in the early stages of their investigation and don’t know how the man became pinned under the vehicle.
“We are not quite sure exactly how it happened. That is something that we are going to have to figure out.”
The Morinville RCMP were initially called to the scene at about 12:30 p.m. when the accident happened and workers with victims’ services are providing support for employees and family members.
The man has not yet been identified, pending the notification of his next of kin.
