Tense moments at an Erin Ridge home ended with the arrest of a St. Albert man on multiple charges Sunday afternoon.
Several detachments, including St. Albert RCMP, responded to a firearms complaint that came in around 4 p.m., said St. Albert RCMP Corp. Morgan Kyle.
“Upon arrival and investigation, the members placed a male under arrest, and he was charged with pointing a firearm, uttering threats against a person and unsafe storage of firearms,” she said.
Kerrie Jesse was arrested outside the home at about 4:30 p.m. without incident, Kyle said.
A witness said at least half a dozen police cars blocked the area off, and they said officers had rifles drawn.
In the case of a report of a weapon, officers at the scene would consider heightened risk in the decision whether or not to draw their own weapons, Kyle said.
Officers on site were able to notify some of the residents in the area.
The incident wasn’t considered a random act so the community at large was not in danger, she said.
“In this case, we had a report of a firearm … we’re always going to treat that with high priority. We’re always going to keep in mind the surrounding area and the safety of the community and our officers, and try to resolve the incident without any issues,” Kyle said.
The home was searched for firearms, and a number of items were seized at the home.
Morinville RCMP responded to the scene along with victim services.
Jesse was held for a hearing in front of a Justice of the Peace before being released from custody with numerous conditions; among them, not to possess any weapons or firearms.
