Message from the chair

The Healthy Business Challenge in St. Albert is alive and well. This week we saw 124 golfers participate in our Almost Annual Golf Tournament and earn points for their businesses for participation. In mid-May, 13 teams of bowlers competed, with the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the City of St. Albert taking the top places. This weekend, there are 16 Slo-pitch teams playing at Meadowview Diamonds over two days.

The Healthy Business Challenge is sponsored by Sturgeon Valley Athletic Club and is managed by the chamber of commerce. Our goal is to encourage physical fitness for our employees and ourselves and to allow for excellent networking opportunities for employees from all business sectors of our community.

The overall winner of the Healthy Business Challenge last year was the City of St. Albert. Businesses receive points for participation, and extra points for coming in first, second, or third in any event. For more information on upcoming events, please call Debbie at the chamber office.

Time for Farmers' Market

The excitement is building as the chamber of commerce gets ready to launch the 28th St. Albert Farmers' Market on the streets of the beautiful Perron District, in the heart of St. Albert. Once again this year, there will be a park and ride service operating continuously from 9:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. from St. Albert Centre, every Saturday from June 19 to Oct. 9. We're pleased to acknowledge the ongoing support and sponsorship of this service by St. Albert Centre and the City of St. Albert.

The opening day of the Farmers' Market will feature an official opening ceremonies right in front of city hall at 9:40 a.m., including the singing of our national anthem. The St. Albert Community Band will be playing in the market all day, and member of Parliament Brent Rathgeber is serving sno-cones at the entrance to the market on St. Anne Street.

Throughout the Perron District, you'll find the "Pick of the Crop" sales event taking place, with specials offered by many downtown businesses and special events taking place throughout the day.

St. Albert hosting chamber convention, AGM

The St. Albert Chamber of Commerce was successful in its bid to host the 2011 Alberta Chambers of Commerce Convention and AGM in St. Albert in May of 2011. The organizing committee is working hard already, planning for this exciting event, which will showcase St. Albert to business leaders from throughout our province.

Since it's the 150th birthday of St. Albert in 2011, we're using the "birthday party" theme for a conference entitled "Cultivate Business" . . . Rendezvous St. Albert 2011. We're sure there will be ample opportunities for all of St. Albert to welcome our delegates.

The St. Albert team of Mike Howes, Charlene Zoltenko, Darel Baker, Lynda Moffat, Jennifer McCurdy and Jessica Smart just returned from the 2010 convention in Lethbridge. More than 30 policy resolutions were passed following debate on the floor of the convention. These resolutions will be forwarded to the appropriate ministers with the provincial government for proposed action.
