Since Rachel Bowron departed St. Albert Children’s Theatre as musical director, she has made huge strides as a regional actor. Her latest venture is a Lemoine double bill at Teatro Live!
In playwright Stewart Lemoine’s double bill, Bowron (Caribbean Muskrat) has nabbed the starring role in Love is For Poor People. This is his first venture writing a single-character play.
The Edmonton-based actress plays a glamorous cosmopolitan woman who offers a frank look at the trajectory of her life even though she’s still quite young and has many adventures still to explore.
Lemoine’s second production is The Exquisite Hour, a theatre piece full of surprises as a supposedly well-adjusted bachelor’s life changes forever when an attractive woman steps into his back yard and asks the question, “Are you satisfied with what you know?”
Mat Busby (The Bad Seed) stars as Zachary Teale while St. Albert actress Jenny McKillop (Fever Land) takes on the role of Helen Darimont, a soft-spoken woman wielding a mysterious magnetism.
The Exquisite Hour/Love is For Poor People plays Feb. 17 to March 5 at the Varscona Theatre. Tickets are $42 for adults and $37 for seniors/students. They are available at www.teatrq.com or by email at [email protected].
