A 57-year-old man is dead following an early morning head-on crash Monday near Westlock.

At around 5:15 a.m. on Sept. 9, Westlock RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 44, north of Township Road 585, near Pickardville.

A car heading northbound on Highway 44 crossed the centre line and collided with a truck that was travelling southbound, RCMP say.

The 57-year-old driver of the car from Alexander First Nation was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man driving the truck was transported to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic both northbound and southbound was rerouted around the collision scene. The highway reopened at around 10:30 a.m. that day. Westlock RCMP and an RCMP collision analyst continue to investigate the crash.
