CRIME STOPPERS AND YOU: MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY

Crime Stoppers wants to remind the public that our anonymous crime reporting system is there to empower citizens to make a difference in their communities. Crime Stoppers has been helping to ensure safer communities for more than 27 years.

We know that one person can make a difference and help the McCann family. We request the public provide any information, regardless of how seemingly inconsequential it appears, as it might be the puzzle piece needed to help solve the investigation.

Edson RCMP officers and firefighters responded to a 911 call on July 5, near the Minnow Lake Campgrounds where a motorhome was reported on fire. The fire was extinguished and the remains of the RV searched for any evidence of people, with negative results. The vehicle was seized and taken to Edson. RCMP attempted to contact the registered owners, the McCanns, but was unsuccessful.

On July 10, 2010 Lyle McCann’s daughter called the St. Albert RCMP reporting her parents missing. They were to have picked her up from an airport in B.C., but in a highly unusual move did not arrive. A missing persons investigation began and the public was provided with information on the McCanns and their missing 2006 light green Hyundai Tucson.

Investigators determined the McCanns purchased fuel at the St. Albert Superstore gas bar, an event captured on video at approximately 9:25 a.m. on July 3.

Since the investigation began, the missing SUV has been located and closely examined for evidence. In addition, a person of interest was identified and eventually arrested on warrants in respect to non-related offences.

The McCanns remain missing and the public’s assistance is being sought in establishing any sightings of them or their SUV. The time period of interest is between July 3, the date of them last being seen and July 16, when the SUV was located.
