The final full weekend before Christmas is upon us, and St. Albertans can take in a host of festive (and not so festive) activities and events.
1. Indoor Christmas Market at the Enjoy Centre
The organizers of the St. Albert Farmers' Market are back with a few Christmas Markets at the Enjoy Centre, with the final market of the year taking place on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
“With over 250 vendors per weekend, there’s a huge variety of products to choose from,” the event's website reads. “For Christmas gifts, you can find crafts, clothing, home décor, artwork, plants and a great selection of unique items to find for your loved ones.”
Admission is free.
2. Borealis Lights
The second annual Borealis Lights drive-thru Christmas display opened to the public in late November, and the display is open from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. each weekend evening until early next month.
“Borealis Lights Christmas drive-thru lighting display offers dazzling new light displays that are sure to bring smiles to family, friends and colleagues,” the event's website says. “Your experience is estimated to take 25 to 30 minutes to complete.”
Tickets for the display start at $32, and are charged on a per-vehicle basis with up to 9 passengers per car.
“A portion of every ticket will be going directly to charities supported by the St. Albert Kinsmen Club.”
For those unable to take in the lights this weekend, Borealis Lights is also open on weeknights from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
3. Inter Mundo at the St. Albert Art Gallery
The St. Albert Art Gallery downtown has an exhibition throughout December featuring three Edmonton artists, Megan Klak, Daniel Evans, and Marilène Oliver.
The exhibition, as described by the Art Gallery, is a mix of paintings, printmaking, and virtual reality.
The once fixed boundary between the physical and the digital realms is becoming more porous, carving out a third, intersecting space — a space between worlds — an Inter Mundos,” Gallery staff wrote online.
“Megan Klak’s large-scale oil paintings capture moments of isolation — figures lost in the entrancing glow of their devices.”
“Daniel Evans’ work homes in on user data — the digital breadcrumbs that we leave scattered in our wake as we journey through both our digital and physical lives.”
“Marilène Oliver’s My Data Body is a fully immersive virtual reality artwork, transporting viewers into a floating otherworldly environment.”
Admission is free, and the Gallery is open tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
4. Neutral Ground get together
Neutral Ground, a relatively new non-profit in St. Albert focused on creating community connections through shared hobby interests, is hosting a free get-together at the St. Albert Public Library on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
The event is free to attend but donations are encouraged.
Event attendees can take part in board games, video games, knitting, crocheting, role-playing, and more, according to the event's Facebook page.
“Join us, have fun, tell friends!”
