The holiday season appears to be in full swing in St. Albert as November comes to an end.
1. Elf — The Musical
St. Albert's Children Theatre's production and series of shows for Elf — The Musical got underway at the Arden Theatre on Thursday, with more performances scheduled for tonight, Saturday, Sunday, and three more shows next weekend.
“This modern-day holiday classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner elf,” the city's website says. “After all, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”
Matinee shows are also scheduled on Sunday, Nov. 26, and Sunday, Dec. 3.
Tickets can be purchased on the Arden Theatre's website.
2. Indoor Christmas Market at the Enjoy Centre
The organizers of the St. Albert Farmers' Market are back with a few Christmas Markets at the Enjoy Centre this year, with the first market taking place on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
“With over 250 vendors per weekend, there’s a huge variety of products to choose from,” the event's website reads. “For Christmas gifts, you can find crafts, clothing, home décor, artwork, plants and a great selection of unique items to find for your loved ones.”
Those unable to make it to the market this weekend are in luck, as the market will return for the following three Saturdays.
Admission is free.
3. Borealis Lights
The second annual Borealis Lights drive-thru Christmas display opened to the public last week in Riel Park, and is open from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. each weekend evening until early January.
The display is also open during weeknights from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
“Borealis Lights Christmas drive-thru lighting display offers dazzling new light displays that are sure to bring smiles to family, friends and colleagues,” the event's website says. “Your experience is estimated to take 25 to 30 minutes to complete.”
Tickets for the display start at $32, and are charged on a per-vehicle basis with up to 9 passengers per car.
“A portion of every ticket will be going directly to charities supported by the St. Albert Kinsmen Club.”
4. Mini-music fest at St. Albert Centre
Organizers with the St. Albert Rotary Music Festival are throwing a one-day holiday music festival in the St. Albert Centre food court on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Gazette's arts and entertainment reporter, Anna Borowiecki, wrote that almost 70 young musicians who performed in this year's Rotary Festival are heading back to the mall for an encore, as well as some new performers St. Albertans might see at next year's Festival in April.
Performers will range in genre from pop, musical theatre, holiday music, and even some boogie.
