There are a host of concerts and events taking place in St. Albert this weekend.
1. Elvis show at the Arden
Ontario's Pete Paquette is back in St. Albert this weekend for an Elvis Presley tribute concert at the Arden Theatre tonight at 7:00 p.m.
Paquette, as Elvis, last graced the Arden stage in March of 2023 for the Legends Show. Joining him this year is his touring band the Rockin' Royals as well as The Tonettes.
“The Elvis Concert is an exciting show celebrating the legacy of music’s most iconic figure, the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley,” the Arden's website explains. “Don’t miss Canada’s one and only Pete Paquette as he delivers an unforgettable live concert experience showcasing Elvis Presley’s music: the 1950s, the 1968 comeback special in leather, and the explosive Vegas years.”
Tickets are $59.00 and can be purchased online through the Arden's website.
2. Great Canadian Roadtrip at the Arden
While taking the stage after Elvis is no easy feat, Doc Walker, Michelle Wright, and Jason McCoy will be doing just that as they will bring their country style to St. Albert on Sunday evening.
“Prepare for an unforgettable experience as three legendary Canadian performers take the stage together for an exceptional evening of county music,” the Arden Theatre's website says.
“The Great Canadian Roadtrip tour's epic lineup includes award-winning country duo Doc Walker, two-time Canadian Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year Jason McCoy, and one of Canada's most recognized and awarded female country singers, Michelle Wright.”
The show is set to start at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, and tickets are $69.00.
3. Superhero Skate at Kinex Arena
Community group Edmonton.family has organized a public skating event at St. Albert's Kinex Arena on Sunday from 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. for youngsters who want to go skating dressed as their favourite superheroes.
“Dress up as your favourite superhero plus meet a real superhero who will be flying around the ice,” the event's description reads.
The event is free and registration is not required.
4. Neutral Ground event at the Library
St. Albert non-profit NeutralGround is back at the Public Library on Saturday afternoon for a free hobby and activity session from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“NeutralGround has been set up to help combat social isolation and foster community through shared hobbies and activities,” the event's website explains. “We are creating a safe, inclusive, indoor location for like-minded people to enjoy their hobbies, individually or as a group.”
Event attendees can knit and crochet; play multi-player video games; play boardgames; take part in some roleplay fun; help complete a team jigsaw puzzle; and more. Snacks are also provided and registration is not required.
5. Merchants games
St. Albert's Jr. B hockey team, the Merchants, have just five regular season games left on this year's schedule, with two taking place this weekend.
The first place Merchants, who have won five straight games, will head to Spruce Grove tonight to take on the Regals at 7:45 p.m..
Merchants forward Nico Gallo became the team's all-time goal scoring leader last weekend with a goal against the Stony Plain Flyers. Gallo also sits fourth in all-time team history for regular season points with 153.
On Sunday the Merchants will host the Sherwood Park Knights at Jarome Iginla Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
The Knights currently lead the Capital Junior Hockey League's East Division and hold the second best record in the league only behind the Merchants. The game is also a rematch of last year's playoff final series, which saw the Knights knock off the Merchants in six games to win their second straight league title.
