St. Albert RCMP arrested five people last weekend on charges related to identity theft, and recovered several stolen items including identification documents.
Around 1:30 p.m. on July 15, police got a report of a possible identify theft incident at the St. Albert Walmart.
Staff reported a man was using stolen ID belonging to a St. Albert resident to apply for a credit card at the store. Those documents had been stolen during a break-in to a St. Albert home two days prior on July 13.
The man was arrested, and a subsequent search of his vehicle resulted in police finding a small amount of drugs and also documents belonging to three other people who reported them stolen from their parked cars earlier in the week.
Police continued the investigation July 17, conducting a second search warrant on a Forest Lawn residence, where four more people were arrested: a man, two women, and a 16-year-old girl.
At that home, police seized another small quantity of drugs, along with more than 25 items believed to be stolen property including identification documents, electronics and jewelry.
The investigation is ongoing, and some further charges are still being processed, but several charges have already been sworn.
A 36-year-old St. Albert man is facing 13 charges including possession of stolen property, identify theft and failing to comply with a court order. A 29-year-old St. Albert woman and a 16-year-old girl are charged with possession of stolen property.
Those three appeared in St. Albert court July 18.
A 33-year-old Edmonton woman was charged with possession of stolen property and failure to comply with a court order, and will appear in court July 25.
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP at 780-458-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
