Fish kill doesn't jive with report

Somehow I cannot reconcile the Gazette front page headline on April 24, "Riel Pond fish kill looms", with the city's environmental policy as advertised in the same edition of the newspaper as part of the city's 2009 Report on the Environmen

Somehow I cannot reconcile the Gazette front page headline on April 24, "Riel Pond fish kill looms", with the city's environmental policy as advertised in the same edition of the newspaper as part of the city's 2009 Report on the Environment/City of St. Albert Cultivates Life.

They we are about to kill off all fish, frogs and salamanders in a pond system frequented by countless migratory birds whilst we say that we are "committed to maintaining a healthy, natural environment." etc. I find nothing natural and healthy in spreading death by pesticides in our environment.

The Riel lagoons/ponds have been draining directly into the river for decades, and whatever creatures live in the lagoons, exotic or native, have long ago been released into the river.
