Fire Hall No. 2 is once again open for business after a brief asbestos scare closed it last Friday.
The City of St. Albert reported Oct. 16 that Fire Hall No. 2 had reopened as Oct. 14.
Operations at that fire hall were suspended on Friday Oct. 13 after crews raised concerns that dust kicked up by holes being drilled in the walls the previous night might contain asbestos. Health and safety crews ordered the building closed, with firefighters and their equipment relocating to Fire. Hall No. 3 for the day.
Subsequent tests found no asbestos in the air at Fire Hall No. 2, so crews were able to return there in time to start the 6 p.m. shift on Oct. 14, city spokesperson Cory Sinclair wrote in an email. The actual dust released by the drill was still being tested for asbestos as of Oct. 16, but as the drilling has stopped and the dust has removed, there is no risk of anyone being exposed.
Residents who see a fire in St. Albert should call 911.
