A traffic collision that occurred near Wildwood on Saturday, May 4, has claimed the life of an 18-year-old St. Albert man.
At 4:50 p.m. Evansburg RCMP were called to a serious collision between a blue pickup truck and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Highways 16 and 753.
The pickup truck was travelling south on Highway 753 and drove into the eastbound lanes of Highway 16, becoming lodged underneath the eastbound tractor-trailer.
The truck was carrying two occupants, an 18-year-old St. Albert man as well as a 77-year-old man from Morinville. One occupant died on scene and the other later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Cpl. Mark Polzer of Evansburg RCMP said the occupants of the pickup were related. The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
The collision is still under investigation. Alcohol, speed and road conditions are not considered to be factors. No charges have been laid.
