Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for St. Albert, Edmonton and Sherwood Park due to high levels of pollution.
“Stagnant winter weather conditions are creating elevated pollution levels,” the statement reads. “Elevated levels of fine particulate matter are currently being observed over the city of Edmonton.”
These environmental conditions can cause coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath, according to Environment Canada.
Children, seniors, and anyone experiencing cardiovascular disease, lung issues or diabetes are at an elevated risk of experiencing these symptoms.
The statement suggests those living or working in the impacted regions reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activity.
