Cops seize drugs, cash in Deer Ridge

Officers seized drugs, cash and a throwing star during a raid on a Deer Ridge home last week.

Officers seized drugs, cash and a throwing star during a raid on a Deer Ridge home last week.

Officers entered the home at 23 Dayton Crescent last Thursday and found marijuana and cannabis resin as well as scales, packaging, drug paraphernalia and cash.

Const. Janice Schoepp said the seizure was not among the highest local police have ever made, but was still significant.

“It wasn’t a large amount. It was enough, however, to support the charges of trafficking.”

Schoepp said the raid was part of an ongoing investigation and declined to specify exactly what led them to the home.

Daniel Steven Coty, 24 and Rachael Lynn Tomas, 19 are both charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking, one count of possession of the proceeds of crime and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.

Officers also found a youth in the house that has been charged with simple possession of marijuana. He cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will make a court appearance separate from the two other accused.

Coty and Tomas will both make a court appearance on March 29. Both were released on cash bail.

Their bail has a long list of conditions including a nightly curfew and a requirement that they not possess any cellphones.
