Conservative MP Michael Cooper has secured a fourth consecutive term in Ottawa, winning re-election in the newly redrawn riding of St. Albert-Sturgeon River. Despite his personal victory, Cooper returns to Parliament facing the familiar challenge of a Liberal minority government.
Cooper, first elected in 2015, has been a prominent figure in the Conservative Party, serving on various committees and as Shadow Minister for Democratic Reform.
The 2025 federal election saw the Liberals, under Prime Minister Mark Carney, maintain a minority government. This outcome means that while Cooper continues to represent his riding, he will do so from the opposition benches, as he has since his initial election.
In his campaign, Cooper emphasized the need for change in government, citing concerns over cost of living pressures and the affordability of life for many Canadians. He advocated for policies such as cutting the lowest personal income tax rate by 15% and repealing the carbon tax.
This is Cooper's first win in the newly established St. Albert-Sturgeon River riding , which includes areas like Lac Ste. Anne County, Redwater, Legal, and Big Lake.
More to come.
