A press release from Mayor Nolan Crouse on behalf of council said the termination was as per the terms of Draper's contract.
Chris Jardine, the city's general manager of community and protective services, has been named as the interim city manager as the search for a new chief administrative officer begins.
Jardine, who has been with the City of St. Albert for several years, had recently announced his plans to retire later in 2016.
