City hall to get nearly $14 million in enviro-friendly retrofits

Energy consumption at St. Albert Place will drop by an estimated 29.17 per cent and greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 558.8 tonnes annually.

The feds rolled into town on Monday morning to announce nearly $14 million in retrofits to St. Albert Place. 

On March 20  Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance and MP for Edmonton Centre, St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron announced more than $13.9 million in joint funding to retrofit St. Albert Place.

The funding announced will lead to major energy savings, a press release from the federal government said, along with reducing GHG emissions and will improve the building's climate resilience. Energy consumption at St. Albert Place will drop by an estimated 29.17 per cent and greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 558.8 tonnes annually.

Funding will also improve the facility’s accessibility.
