New store at mall
St. Albert Centre has welcomed a new business to its roster of retailers moving into its expanded space.Harvest Medicine, a medical cannabis clinic, opened its doors on July 11. It’s the second clinic of its kind to open in St. Albert.
The store was originally slated to open in May. In a previous interview with the Gazette, the owner said their focus is set squarely on the medical side of the drug. Medicinal cannabis will continue to be regulated federally under Health Canada once recreational use is legalized in October, which means the drug will still be shipped to the patient’s house.
If interested in learning more, people can book an appointment with a doctor at the clinic. Once there, the patient will complete a self-assessment to determine if cannabis is right for them.

Amacon
The office at Grandin Parc Village is undergoing a makeover.Amacon, the developer behind the project, announced the renovations on Thursday. The original office, which was built in the 1980s, stands six storeys tall.
When completed, it will feature a newly expanded lobby, a fitness centre and a business centre.
On the outside, the building will be getting a facelift with new windows and cladding, giving it a more modern feel.
The expansion is the next phase of the 10-acre development located along Sir Winston Churchill Avenue and Grandin Road. Once the four-phase build-out is completed, it will contain 1,200 condos, 160,000 square feet of retail and 60,000 square feet of office space.
“We believe in all the reasons that make St. Albert an incredible place to live and to do business,” said Amacon vice-president Randy Baker.
“It’s been noted as a ‘smart, steady and safe’ place and we couldn’t agree more. We also feel it’s a beautiful community with close access to all forms of transportation, a rich significant history, and has garnered several accolades for being one of the best places in Canada.”
In 2007, the Vancouver-based development company bought the land where the former Grandin mall used to stand. Ten years later, in 2017, it completed its first phase of the project.
