Buco opens second location in arena district
The newest Buco Pizzeria and Vino location will be found in the Epcor Tower – a block away from Rogers Place.
Owned by the Rago family, the original Buco site is located at 130 Bellerose Drive in St. Albert. It was named one of the top restaurants in 2016 by Avenue Magazine. The family also owns the Sorrentino’s restaurant chain.
Scheduled to open in late fall, the new restaurant will feature a rustic interior and high ceilings, and will serve morning espressos, as well as lunch and dinner menus with a focus on Neopolitan pizza, homemade pasta and locally sourced entrées.
DaVinci Gelato celebrated the grand opening of its café on Wednesday.
The café is located in the Riel Business Park at 12C Rayborn Cres., in a bay next to its production centre.
It serves coffee, paninis, salads, soups when it gets cold, gelato and sorbet.
“The idea was to offer fresh gelato right from the machine and also to offer some more of our signature flavors,” said CEO Yvonne Irnich.
Irnich learned how to make gelato based on original Italian recipes before immigrating to Canada from Germany.
She began DaVinci Gelato as a food truck and catering business.
The food truck will still serve gelato at special events, the St. Albert Farmers’ Market and private functions.
The café is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. However, a Facebook post warned that the location would be closed this upcoming Sunday and Monday for the long weekend.
Patrons can expect to see an almost daily rotation of DaVinci’s 120 flavours, as well as signature cups, which are served in a glass with two to three different gelati, whipped cream, topping and fruit or chocolate.
“Those were difficult to make in the trailer,” said Irnich.
