The owner of a new slipper store is aiming to provide local residents with unique and comfortable European footwear. Shoe Euphorica opened last week on Hebert Road. The store sells a collection of De Fonseca Italian slippers, casual shoes and flip-flops.
Avid slipper fan and co-owner Oksana Najaryan said she opened the store in St. Albert because she felt the community would welcome the shoes’ European design.
“Back in my country this was my favourite brand and when I came here I couldn’t find this brand and it was very difficult to leave my big collection of slippers and flip-flops behind,” she said.
With 150 designs available at the store, shoppers have a wide selection of unique designs, including “toy slippers,” Najaryan said – slippers in the form of animals and outdoor shoes. The store is also the first one in Canada selling the De Fonseca brand, she said.
All the slippers are made from 100 per cent cotton and washable, and cost between $20 and $35. Flip-flop prices range from $40 to $90 as some can be worn with dresses and come with unique designs, she said.

Chrisen Realty Corporation recently released the first list of shops moving into its new, high-end shopping development on Boudreau Road – The Shops at Boudreau.
Among the tenants listed on the company’s website are DeLux Burger Bar, Oliv Tasting Room and Hicks’ Fine Wines.
There will also be Unique Cleaners, Careit Urban Deli and two doctors – Edmonton-based orthodontist Michal Major and dentist Colin Diener.
The 5.3-acre development, located on the original Hole’s greenhouse site, will be modelled after Crestwood Centre in Edmonton. In a previous interview with the Gazette, the company said it plans to construct five buildings, offering both commercial and office spaces.
The cost of the project is slated at $26 million, with the first shops expected to open in the summer or fall of 2014.
After five years as a school counsellor with the Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, Susan Grinder is expanding her services to the rest of the community.
The registered St. Albert psychologist is opening a private practice, Charis Counselling, to help individuals, couples and families deal with anxiety.
“I wanted more of a challenge. I think there are a lot of people in St. Albert that are probably dealing with anxiety and I reach just a very small part of them in the school,” she said. “So I wanted to be able to be exposed to more people.”
Grinder has 11 years experience as a school counsellor, and worked as a social worker with trauma patients before that. She will continue her work as school counsellor and offer her private counselling on a part-time basis on Saturdays, she said. In the future, she also hopes to run group-counselling sessions for children.
