St. Albert city council has voted to squash the $20.8 million borrowing bylaw for Millennium Park at second reading, bringing the project to a halt.

Coun. Shelley Biermanski, Coun. Sheena Hughes, Coun. Mike Killick, and Coun. Ken MacKay were opposed. Killick and MacKay both changed their votes since council last discussed Millennium Park in January.

Prior to voting, council did discuss the possibility of using funds included in the borrowing bylaw to complete public engagement, something cited as a major concern by the nearly 10 members of the public who signed up to speak against the project on Tuesday, however, after the borrowing bylaw was defeated, council was told that idea can be brought up at a future meeting.

The Gazette will have more to come.
