The Alberta Citizens Patrol Association (ACOPA) is looking for volunteers, and the St. Albert RCMP is encouraging volunteers to join up to help keep their communities safe.
ACOPA, a decades-long community crime prevention initiative, is seeking dedicated volunteers to help enhance safety across the province. There are 44 chapters, and the organization works in partnership with the Alberta RCMP to promote safer homes and neighbourhoods.
The volunteers for ACOPA are trained by the RCMP and they act as an extra set of eyes for their communities. They patrol local areas, make observations, and report suspicious or unlawful activities directly to RCMP for followup.
The following requirements are in place for anyone looking to become a Citizen on Patrol volunteer:
- Be at least 19 years of age;
- Possess a valid driver's licence and maintain a good driving record; and
- Pass the security check required by the RCMP.
