Wynn fundraiser game tomorrow

If you still haven't made your plans for tomorrow evening, there's a hockey game that will rally the community once more behind Const. David Wynn.

If you still haven't made your plans for tomorrow evening, there's a hockey game that will rally the community once more behind Const. David Wynn.

The city, along with CFCW Radio, is hosting a fundraiser for the Constable David Wynn Memorial and Endowment Fund.

"Const. David Wynn was an outstanding member of our community and is dearly missed," said Mayor Nolan Crouse in a prepared press release. "We appreciate the leadership of CFCW in helping organize this fundraiser to assist the City of St. Albert and the Wynn Family in honouring his legacy."

The action will happen at Servus Credit Union Place on Thursday starting at 6 p.m. with puck drop at 7 p.m. Admission will be by donation and there will be a silent auction as well.

All proceeds will go to support the endowment fund that is being established through the St. Albert Community Foundation to provide scholarships to youths looking to pursue a career in the public service, a uniformed career or an emergency services career.

For more information, visit www.stalbert.ca and search 'Wynn Legacy'. Donations can be made online there as well.

Break Free to help others break free

The Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation is hosting its second annual Break Free Gala event in support of victims of domestic violence.

The black tie affair will feature entertainment by Calgary's duelling Rowdy Pianos, plus aerialist performances and a comedian. Attendees will enjoy appetizers by Green Bean and a four-course meal plus 'late lunch' along with a photo booth, raffle, funny money casino and door prizes.

Representatives from the foundation will make a major announcement regarding the long-term goal of building a safe house during the event as well.

The gala will be held at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre, 9502 100 Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday with the event starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at Home Hardware, through www.eventbrite.ca, or at the facility.

Game-a-Lot this weekend

This weekend's competition is to board games what a smorgasbord is to lunch. The 16th annual Game-A-Lot is set to be the biggest yet with more than 110 games on the schedule. Its motto is "by the gamers; for the gamers," meaning all games submitted by attendees.

The volunteer-run and family-friendly event will see crowds upon crowds of participants and spectators cheering on the fun. There will not only be non-stop board gaming but a silent auction, raffle, and fundraiser barbecue to keep fuelling the fun too. All attendees are also entered for the chance to win hourly draw prizes.

The action takes place from Friday through Sunday but don't head to Mission Fun and Games as you would have in past years. The event has simply outgrown its britches and has had to move on up to the Kinsmen Centre on Riel Drive. All proceeds will go to support the St. Albert Family Resource Centre.
