Once again Edmonton gets ready to host the third annual Dîner en Blanc.
The annual culinary affair, with its promise of elegance, pomp and ceremony, takes place on Thursday, July 28 at a secret, public space.
More than 1,500 food, fashion and trend enthusiasts joined in the elaborate event last year. This year, organizers hope to surpass the 2,000 mark.
Dîner en Blanc is a worldwide event whereby people flash-gather in a public space and set up a temporary, chic dining area for a few hours.
Everyone dresses formally in white. Not cream. Just white. Guests who have registered on a waiting list are made privy to the location on the day of the dinner that generally happens in an iconic place.
Patrons can bring their own gourmet feast or pre-order one from DĂ®ner en Blanc’s e-store. Guests are also responsible for supplying their own white accessories such as table, two chairs and a tablecloth. Proper stemware and white dinnerware must also be used.
“In a sea of white, where elegance reigns as the theme, DĂ®ner en Blanc, arguably is the social event of the season. It gives you a sense of wonder and mystery as individuals come together to dine on fine food, dress in chic and imaginative white ensembles and be given the experience to be stunned and delighted,” said local host Christina Ignacio-Deines.
The evening is structured with ceremony including the wave of a cloth napkin to mark the dinner’s start and the lighting of sparklers making guests aware they are free to mingle and dance. And at the evening’s end, a trumpet sounds and guest pack up their belongings.
