If you haven’t already dusted off the lawn chairs, now is the time to do it.

Once again music and nature lovers are invited to lose themselves in the visual and aural beauty of the St. Albert Botanic Park as St. Albert Chamber Music Society returns with its first concert of the summer series.

St. Albert flautist Crystal Krips along with cellist Caitlin Laslop and flautist Dorothy Speers join forces under the moniker Terzetto for a leisurely afternoon of the classics on Sunday, July 17.

Surrounded by the visual splendour of the park’s many gardens, the three top-tier musicians will perform Bach, Pergolesi, Mozart and a movement from Haydn’s London Trio in the park’s gazebo.

“It’s going to have a contemporary pop-folk focus,” said Krips. “It’s going to be a laid-back enjoyable concert – nothing too heavy. It’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a beautiful setting and maybe have a picnic.”

The ensemble was formed at the request of music society co-founder Nancy Watt who was searching for a flute-cello ensemble to launch the series.

Krips and Speers were old buddies. They have performed together at New Edmonton Wind Sinfonia since 1999.

In addition, Krips was introduced to Laslop through the University of Alberta’s Cantato Music Fest and both developed a high degree of respect for each other. Ergo, an ensemble trio was born.

“Dot is amazing. She has an incredible tone. Musically, she’s very gifted and a joy to work with. We’ve played together so long, we read each other’s minds, and we’re good friends,” said Krips, a tight, lean player in her own right.

“And Caitlin is a very fine player and also very musical. She’s a very busy musician with her chamber ensemble VIF String Quartet.”

The three artists have experience performing outdoor venues and satisfying diverse musical tastes that range from classical to jazz to light pop.

“It’s a delightful thing to be part of. People just want to enjoy music in the park. We don’t get that often so we’re grateful we can provide the opportunity for people to enjoy it. And it’s free.”

Guests are also invited to explore the numerous flower gardens while enjoying the beauty of Terzetto’s music.

Grab your lawn chair, a cooler filled with snacks and get ready to discover a new summertime experience. The concert runs from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
