Are you a young performer eager to impress the crowds? If so, listen up.

The 3rd annual St. Albert’s Got Talent is back with another round of auditions for spirited children and youth hoping to land a performance slot at the St. Albert Lifestyle Expo.

“We used to call it St. Albert Idol,” said organizer Martha Livingstone from Visionary Centre for the Performing Arts.

“But it was only for singers. And we decided we wanted to include dancers, gymnasts, magicians, bands and any type of entertainment that could be put on the stage. It’s much more diverse now.”

Auditions will be held two consecutive Saturdays on April 7 and 14 at Visionary Centre. The first set on April 7 is for children and youth from six years to 18. The second set on April 14 is for 13- to 18-year-olds only.

“This is a showcase of talent and we want performers to be well-prepared. Even if you have a lot of talent, but you are not ready, you will be unable to qualify for the semi-finals,” Livingstone said.

Depending on age, the young artists will be placed in three categories: elementary, junior high and senior. Successful performers will be chosen to appear at the semi-finals from April 20 to 21.

From that grouping, 10 finalists will be chosen to entertain at St. Albert’s Got Talent Finals on Sunday, April 22.

Livingstone noted the number of prizes has increased this year. Innovations Music is giving 30 finalists a $50 gift card.

Paul Sadler from Swimland is providing a $2,000 pot of cash prizes divided among the first and second place winners in each category. In addition, Eyelight Photography is donating a $500 photo package for the first place recipient of each category.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase your talent on a professional stage and have fun.”

The 2017 winners were The Coat Hangers (Senior High), Stephanie Hayden (Junior High) and Hannah Adamson (Elementary).
