New restaurant opens
Janos Café & Bistro is the new casual eatery in St. Albert. Located on Perron Street in the downtown core, the Turkish-style restaurant is operated by husband and wife team Savash Refik and Esra Ziya.“It was my dream to own a restaurant and I love the area. The opportunity came and we decided to give it a shot. I love cooking and I wanted to share my taste with the public,” said Ziya.
The menu is tailored to quickly prepared from-scratch meals that include appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts with a Turkish twist. For hungry visitors searching from more familiar flavours, pizza is also available.
Within the week, Ziya also hopes to start serving a Turkish breakfast with omelettes, menemen (Turkish sausage with eggs) and borek (pastry).
Although Edmonton residents, the couple opted to open in St. Albert from Ziya’s knowledge of the city.
“I worked at Hudson’s Bay for nearly two years as a sales associate. I had a very good experience working in St. Albert. People were very nice and I had many good compliments from customers,” she said.
For this couple, opening a restaurant is just as much about the art of hospitality as serving food from their homeland.
As Refik notes, “ When a customer comes here, we want them to feel they’re coming to their own home.”
Seniors, military, police and firefighters receive a 10 per cent discount.
