When Confections Cake Co. launched its dessert bar, it pointed to St. Albert’s maturation in the food scene.Its roaring start continues as owners Brittany Allen and Jarrett Delaney have taken the lead in offering baking workshops.
Yes, now both kids and adults no longer have to travel out of the city to learn tips and tricks on how to make those yummy creations you see in bakery showcases.
Starting in the new year, the dessert bar is offering a Kids Macaron Class on Friday, Jan. 4, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and a Kids Snowman Buttercream Cake Class on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Adults can take in a Fondant Snowman Cake Class on Sunday, Jan. 6, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. as well as a Macaron Class on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Christmas dinner to go
Hosting Christmas dinner is a wonderful experience. But sometimes the stress and work is overwhelming. Fairmont Hotel MacDonald has a remedy.The hotel’s massive kitchen is accepting orders for a “Dinner to Go.” All you have to do is prepay with a credit card and pick it up fresh and hot from the oven.
The kitchen is cooking a choice of two dinners. The turkey dinner offers a five-kilogram turkey, butternut squash soup, buttermilk mashed potatoes, quinoa salad, root vegetables with maple glaze, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and dessert. It is priced at $500 plus GST.
The second dinner, a three-and-one-half-kilogram prime rib, is accompanied by buttermilk mashed potatoes, quinoa salad, fall veggies with maple glaze, horseradish chimmichuri, Yorkshire pudding, bone marrow jus and dessert. It is $550 plus GST.
Both dinners serve six to eight people. Orders must be placed seven days prior to your event by calling 780-429-6495. Dinner to Go is on for a limited time until Jan. 2.
